Expert Joe Riggio refin in the correct version of Candy Apple Red over silver base coat with a realistic (non-belt sander) relicing that looks honest. 86xxx serial, black bobbin pups, orig tuners and bridge, 2x1974 pots and 1 pot is possibly orig. Oct 62 neck. The pick guard is the best repro I have ever seen – Thick, wide bevel, correct shade of mint, properly aged. With the correct wear and patina, it could pass for real. The bass plays, sounds and looks great and comes with a 70s Fender black tolex case (we got this in naked).
The Bad (and not too ugly) – See the multiple photos
This was performed by a super pro luthier – The bass has a typical e-tuner split at the screw that plagued this era bass. It was pro glued and clamped and for extra strength had a dowel professionally and properly installed. It didn’t need it, its total over kill but good on the luthier for going over and above. It has an expert finish over it too.
This was performed by an absolute animal who should lose his luthier cert (see detail on the correction) – During a prior refret some moron incorrectly used a radius block sander to clean the fret board and level it out. On the treble side he burned thru the edge in 2 small areas (see pics) and sanded thin in other areas of the edge. This is on the corner of the board, not the surface, My hunch, the skilled luthier who did the e-tuner fix above, properly put a good radius on the board and provided an expert level refret. See the pics.
To summarize, great looking, excellent playing 62J with an expert refin at a very fair price.
