1964 (Circa) Decca Vintage 1960s Bass Sunburst

Oh boy another great bedtime story from Uncle Kebo's book shelf..  Forget the milk, pull up a bourbon...  Well you guys know the trials and tribulations of Muffy and Timmy and what bass to use at the cotillion...  WELLLLLLLL wouldnt ya know, we met Timmys parents, Dick and Jane and no, Spot, and Puff were not in tow. So Dick was using this bass at the golf outing and he needed new monogrammed balls so he contacted us to buy the bass and we did.  The bass shows up and its a disaster with action over a half inch high.. So, by hook and crook we end up with this.  Initially we were going to use it as a door stop or make a cutting board out it.  THEN  Mikey Sprinkles steps in (Mike is my Co-luthier).  He bet me I didnt have the chops to make this bass perfectly playable.  SOOOOOOOO  Like the challenge of the network stars (I wanted to be Eric Estrada and ride a bike and be a cop - show of hands, who else remembered this show) I became Ponch and took on the challenge!  The pocket was leveled as there was a hump, The geometry was cleanly set using the correct use of minimal shims. Some dope filed down a saddle (You wouldn't know it if I didnt tell you) and we did some correction there. The good news (yes Timmo, there was some good news) the neck actually was straight and the rod works fine.  We leveled the frets and they are in good shape (lets face it, the playability sucked from day 1 so no one used it) and the bass plays reallllly good now, honestly, it does.  Has the baseball bat neck and sounds quite awsome.  As my good friend Matt Nelson says, everyone needs a catalog bass as nothing has THAT sound.  Well here ya go. We even put it in a new gigbag.  The bass is nice and shiney, and is a cool old piece of Americana.
