1966 Gibson Thunderbird II Pelham Blue / Inverness Green

$9,895.00

 Product Description

When considering any purchase, know exactly who you are dealing with. Please read our ‘about us’ page.

WOW where to begin.... YES it has the mandatory headstock repair

The finish - Yes it is an original body finish with no work.  It is quite possible it is Inverness as the cavities look inverness BUT to hedge our bets, I'm calling this Pelham to save an argument. Like Pelham fades to Inverness, Inverness can do the opposite - look at the underguard photos.  The jury is out.

The parts - Other than the covers, thumb rest and nut - They are all there.  The saddles were notched as these were un-notched units from the factory.  The saddles have plenty of room to notch out even further if you chose to.  The bass comes with a VERY expensive gigbag.  The original guard is missing the tips due to shrinkage and the upper edge had a second hole (see pics).

The 'Stuff' - Yes she had a headstock break, not a smiley face break but a good old Tbird break.  EXPERT repair.  The neck was refinished in the process and see the photo of the truss rod cavity.  We adjusted and tested the truss rod.  The neck is straight and worked fine but mildly stiff.  See the underguard pics.  The edge of the pickup cavity - MANY of these had the edge chip off even when new as the factory routing would grad the corner.  The edge was professionally 'contoured'.  She never wore another set of pickups. The heal is factory fine.  The entire neck was resprayed post repair.  Good neck, good frets, good rod.

We believe this bass to be a 1966 as the neck pitch angle mildly changed in 1967 and it has the un-notched saddles.  The serial was lost during the repair process.  Whoever did this repair had their SHI* together as we like how it was done - it was done right and long ago. Its stable, clean and has not moved.

There was a lot to list and a lot to account for - please ask any questions.  Shipping - we will use our shop's account and ship UPS expedited. We will also have 'real' insurance provided by Heritage Insurance on a transit rider as we all know NON-Reverb UPS insurance sucks. (BTW just a plug - Reverb insurance is awesome!)   Another reason we will use our own label is this is over Reverb's insurance allowance.

With non-broken, custom color TBirds in the 20k ball park, we have this less than half.  This one you can actually play.

DOMESTIC Shipping is listed.  IF this sells to a foreign country actual shipping will apply, It is a final sale and we will not be responsible for any transit damage (Again this is foreign countries only). Re reserve the right where we send outside the US - contact us before making an offer.
