1972 Rickenbacker 4001 1972 - Mapleglo Oversprayed - All 7 Features - Player grade but OH what a PLAYER!!

$4,695.00

 Product Description

There's going to be a lot of information based in fact, not flowery language. We encourage all your questions and yes, we will talk on the phone if requested. Also we have a ton my pics but hit the limit here.  We'd be glad to email them.

The 70s were not a good time and this bass came thru shaken not stirred but there are a few things to discuss straight away. This is a 7 feature bass and other than a few screws, all the parts are there. The truss rods are good! We easily got our Stew Mac tool on the rods with out issue and adjusted in both directions. The action is low, the neck is good. We JUST removed the choke cap from the tail pickup that was still in place!

She's a 7 feature bass, last of the best series.

* Box back Grover tuners

* Plexi truss rod cover

* Crusher inlays - binding to binding

* Toaster pickup

* Plexi thumb rest

* Gap tooth bridge - with almost no lift at all

* Checker board binding

LL Serial (December of 72), pots date 7128, the tail pickup still has the aluminum base plate. 8.7 lbs and a good generic hard case complete the package.

Ok so why is this priced way below market - it's simple.

* We believe the bass is oversprayed and NOT refinned. Look at ALL the pics, theres not a trace of color anywhere. Under the bridge - no trace. The cavities - no trace. ALL the pen marks are correct, in place and untouched. We went into the pickguard holes and scraped - not a trace of color. The overspray has been there for ever and looks good. Would a cut/sand and buff make it prettier, sure it will but like I said, its not bad, looks good.

* The bass had a pbass pickup at 1 time, it has a slight route (see pics) and it is hidden by the stock guard

* Some knucklehead carved a tiny square 1/4 or so square on the back that did not carve out any wood. The grain matches, the color matches, it is not below a cavity so its not a patch (see pic)

* There are a few holes (mainly under the guard) from the incorrect plastic pickguard for the pbass pickup and 2 filled on the face. (see pics). The bass wore wrong plastic but the orig parts were retained. There is 1 or 2 tiny holes under the truss rod cover.

So in summary - Nice players bass, all there except for maybe a screw or 2, has the overspray, route and a few tiny holes that are mostly hidden. There are 4003 basses at this price and this is a real 7 feature 1972. Like I said, any questions or an inhand description, please ask, we're glad to discuss.
